Similar to standard FDM machines, large format FDM extrudes melted plastic filament onto a build plate in layers to build a part. Large format allows for the printing of large parts in a single piece, or many small parts at the same time. The heated build chambeer allows for the printing of high-temp polymers like PEEK and Ultem.
Process Name
Large Format High Temp FDM
Applications
Large parts i.e. body panels, cosplay helmets etc. High temp parts i.e. exhaust manifolds
Advantages
Allows for the creation of parts that would usually be injection molded, vaccum formed, or blow molded without the investment into tooling development.
Limitations
Large prints can take multiple days to complete, adding cost to the part. Larger extruder diameters can result in poor resolution that will require post-processing once the print is complete.
