What is Industrial CT Scanning?
- Detect internal voids, cracks, porosity, and inclusions
- Measure internal dimensions and wall thicknesses
- Validate assembly configurations
- Perform non-destructive failure analysis
- Create digital twins and 3D models
- Verify first article inspection (FAI) requirements
CT Scanning Services for Manufacturers
Accelerate Design & Ensure Quality from the Inside Out
Your Manufacturing Challenges:
- Hidden internal flaws often go undetected by traditional inspection methods
- Tight production deadlines leave little time for trial-and-error fixes
- Advanced inspection tools are costly or unavailable in-house
- You need to meet strict industry standards and compliance requirements
How CT Scanning Helps:
Reveal Hidden Defects Early
Find internal voids, cracks, or porosity before they cause failures, recalls, or field issues. Our CT scanning services identify defects that visual inspection, traditional X-rays, and other NDT methods miss.
Accelerate Development Cycles
Use fast, comprehensive 3D X-ray scans of prototypes to refine designs quicker. Reduce iteration time from weeks to days by seeing exactly what's happening inside your parts.
Micro-level detail
High-resolution 3D X-ray scans reveal tiny features and hidden composition not visible with standard techniques
Reduce Waste and Rework
Validate part integrity non-destructively, cutting down on scrap and rework costs. Catch manufacturing defects early in the process when they're less expensive to fix.
Ensure Compliance & Confidence
Meet aerospace, medical device, and automotive industry standards with thorough, traceable 3D inspection data for every critical component.
Industries We Serve:
- Aerospace & Defense
- Medical Devices
- Automotive Manufacturing
- Consumer Products
- Electronics & PCBs
- Additive Manufacturing/3D Printing
CT Scanning for Research & Academia
See the Invisible: Non-Destructive CT Scanning for Research
Your Research Challenges:
- Valuable artifacts and specimens can be harmed by invasive methods
- Traditional imaging (2D X-rays, microscopy) misses critical internal details
- Limited access to advanced equipment makes in-depth analysis difficult under tight grant timelines
- You need publishable, high-resolution data
How Research CT Scanning Helps:
No Sample Damage
Examine internal structures in 3D while keeping rare or fragile samples completely intact. Perfect for archaeological artifacts, biological specimens, fossils, or irreplaceable research materials.
Micro-Level Detail
High-resolution 3D X-ray scans reveal tiny features and hidden composition not visible with standard techniques. Capture details down to micron-level resolution.
Deeper Insights
Virtually slice and analyze your object from any angle to validate hypotheses and uncover new findings. Create cross-sections without physical sectioning.
Enhanced Storytelling
Create compelling 3D models and cross-sections for publications, presentations, grant proposals, or museum exhibits.
Research Applications:
- Archaeological & Paleontological specimens
- Museum conservation & artifact analysis
- Biological specimens & forensic anthropology
- Materials science research
- Climate studies (ice cores, geological samples)
- Composite materials analysis
Our CT Scanning Capabilities
State of the Art Equipment
Nikon 225 KW Industrial CT Scanner Our advanced Nikon CT system provides:
Expert Analysis:
Experienced engineers interpret and deliver actionable insights
Wide range of part size:
0.2 to 40 cm in diameter with a mass up to 50 kg. To be viewed in a single scan, the maximum diameter should be less than 25 cm. Samples up to about 40 cm in diameter can be scanned using offset and/or helical scans which require more processing time.
Achievable Resolution:
Resolution of CT is highly dependent on part size, material properties, geometry and thickness. For small parts, resolutions of 10 - 30 micrometers has been achieved
Material Versatility:
Metals, Plastics, Electrical Circuits, Cement, Stone, Organic materials, Composites Analysis
Software:
Volume Graphics Studio Max 3.5 Types of Analysis: Dimensional measurement, wall thickness , porosity, foam or powder, Reverse Engineering: CT Scanning can be used to create high quality .STL files

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does CT scanning cost?
CT scanning costs vary based on part size, resolution requirements, number of parts, and analysis depth. Contact us for a free quote tailored to your specific needs.
What file formats do you provide?
We provide STL, STEP, IGES files, point clouds, detailed PDF reports, and raw CT data in industry-standard formats.
How long does CT scanning take?
Typical turnaround is 1-2 weeks for standard projects. Rush services are available for urgent needs.
What size parts can you scan?
0.2 to 40 cm in diameter with a mass up to 50 kg. To be viewed in a single scan, the maximum diameter should be less than 25 cm. Samples up to about 40 cm in diameter can be scanned using offset and/or helical scans which require more processing time.
Do you scan prototypes or only production parts?
We scan both prototypes and production parts. CT scanning is particularly valuable for validating prototypes before committing to production tooling.
Can you compare CT scans to CAD models?
Yes, we offer CAD-to-part comparison services that overlay your scan data with original design files to identify deviations.
Is my intellectual property protected?
Absolutely. We maintain strict confidentiality protocols and offer NDAs upon request.
Do you offer on-site CT scanning?
Our CT scanner is located at our Vermont State University facility. We accept shipped parts or walk-in drop-offs.
