Wire Electrical discharge machining (Makino U6)

In wire EDM, an electrical current is discharged through a moving, small diameter wire through the part being machined to remove (cut away) material.

Process Name

Wire Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM)

Applications

Wire EDM is extremely acurate and can produce fine surface finishes. It can be used for tight tolerance aplications is molds, punch and die and close assembly tolerance parts.

Advantages

Extremely hard materials like carbides, ceramics, titanium alloys and heat treated tool steels that are very difficult to machine using conventional machining can be precisely machined by EDM

Limitations

Cannot cut plastics, rubbers or composites that are not electrically conductive.

Specifications

Largest part: 1000 x 800 x 400 mm Tall; 1500 Kg Weight Achievable Tolerance: A kerf or cutting radius is dependent on wire size - .015" is typical Typical materials: Metal conductive materials are used
